You may not have prostate cancer, but chances are you love someone who does or will.
Every day in Canada, 80 men hear the words: “You have prostate cancer.” One in eight will face it in their lifetime. In 2026 alone, an estimated 29,300 Canadians will be diagnosed — making it the most common cancer among men, accounting for nearly one in four of all new male cancer diagnoses. Most walk out of that appointment with a follow-up date months away, a partner who is quietly terrified, and no idea where to turn.
That is where RK found himself. Healthy, active, doing everything right. Then, a diagnosis that changed everything overnight. The months that followed were filled with fatigue, uncertainty, and long stretches of waiting for answers. Beside him, his partner carried just as much fear, quietly trying to stay strong, with few places to turn for support. Then they found PROSTAID Calgary. And slowly, things began to feel a little less overwhelming.
For 32 years, PROSTAID Calgary has been the community that shows up when the system says wait. Every month, three groups of people affected by prostate cancer walk through our doors — caregivers who are exhausted, survivors who want to give back, and people who just got the news and don’t know what comes next.
Every one of them is welcomed by someone who has been exactly where they are standing. Our meetings are free. Our doors are open. And behind them: 896 members, 181 educational videos, and a monthly journal reaching over 1,300 people across Calgary and Southern Alberta.
Will you make a gift today? Here is what your support makes possible.
Community Supporter $1–$99 Some of the most important questions people ask don’t come up during business hours. It’s 2 a.m. Someone is scared and searching for answers. Because you’re a Community Supporter, the Digital Examiner is right there — the website is up, the information is clear, and they don’t have to feel alone. Your gift keeps the lights on: hosting, tools, and the everyday costs that make sure help is there whenever someone needs it. You keep the door open. Thank you for that.
Newly Diagnosed Package: $100-$249 When a man hears the words “you’ve been diagnosed,” the silence that follows can be deafening. Your gift funds a info package which includes the Reef Knot Kit — a practical, reassuring package that cuts through that silence and says: You are not alone, and here is where to start.
Blue Ribbon Room $250 to $499: Four meetings. Four rooms full of men who showed up, not knowing what to expect, and left a little less alone. And one more room — for the partners, family members, and caregivers who are carrying this too. Your gift covers a month of hall rental, keeping the space open for member meetings and a caregivers gathering — where strangers become friends, and where fear quietly starts to turn into something more like hope.
Prostaid Partnership, $1,000 to $4,999: They Showed Up So Others Wouldn’t Have To Go It Alone Survivors, partners, and volunteers who give their time and hard-won experience so no man has to figure this out alone. They ask for nothing in return — but once a year, we ask them to let us say thank you. Your gift funds our Pathfinder volunteer appreciation event, an evening to honor the people who make everything we do possible. Help us honor them.
“Joining PROSTAID Calgary gave me a safe place to share my experiences and learn from others facing similar challenges. The support and knowledge I gained are invaluable.” B.S., PROSTAID Calgary member.
That is what your gift makes possible. Not just information. Not just a meeting. A family that finds its footing again.
Imagine a Calgary where every man who hears those words knows exactly where to go. Where his partner has a room full of people who understand. Where the next generation of men gets tested early enough that treatment is a choice, not a crisis. That is what we are building, one gift, one meeting, one family at a time.
Will you be part of it? Give today at prostaid.org.
You don’t have to do this journey alone. And neither do we.
